Contributed by Annette Burdett THE FAIRFIELD RECORDER Thursday, January 18, 2001 VERDIE McADAMS CANNON Funeral services were held Thursday, January 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield for Verdie Ellen McAdams Cannon, 77, who died January 8 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, TX. Rev. Wayne Middleton officiated at the service. Special music included "Amazing Grace" , and "One Day at a Time". Mrs. Cannon was born November 16, 1923 at Mt. Zion, Freestone County, Texas. She retired as secretary for the ASCS, a position she held for 32 years. She was a member of the Fairfield VFW Ladies Auxilary and First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Merdis Childs McAdams. Survivors are her husband Willis Cannon of Fairfield, son Ricky Neal Cannon and wife Kay of Fairfield, granddaughter Heather Winkler and husband Daniel, great-grandson Nathan Winkler and great-granddaughter Casey Winkler; Brothers Milton McAdams of Pasadena, Richard McAdams and Bobby McAdams, both of Fairfield, and sisters Callie Brown of Teague, Ruby B. Willard of Houston, Mary Bonner of Teague and Myrtle Walthall of Fairfield. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Gregory, Tim Walthall, John Finley, Jerry Johnson, David McAdams, and Terry Walthall. Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
