Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 12, 2009 Willis N. Cannon Funeral services were held Tuesday for Willis N. Cannon, 84, of Fairfield who died Sunday, March 8, at Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Fairfield. Mr. Cannon was born in Grange Hall on Aug. 20, 1924. He graduated from Fairfield high school and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. Following his military service, Mr. Cannon was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years until he retired. He was a lifelong rancher and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Cannon was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Wilbur H. Bailey Memorial Post No. 5872 in Fairfield where he served as chaplain for many years. He was also a member of Grange Hall Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery. Mr. Cannon is survived by his son, Ricky Cannon and wife Kay; granddaughter, Heather Winkler and husband Daniel; greatgrandson, Nathan Winkler; and sister, Blanche M. Allen, all of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verdie McAdams; father, Robert N. Cannon; mother, Lily Cannon; stepmother, Rena Day Cannon; and sister, Eloise Davis. Arrangements were made by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
