Freestone County, Texas Obits Mexia Daily News - Dec. 10, 2003 edition Zelda Laverne Carpenter TEAGUE - Mrs. Zelda Laverne Carpenter, 85, formerly of Donie and Wortham, died Tuesday in Henderson, where she had resided for the past five years. She was born in Jewett on April 17, 1918, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her Christian example was an inspiration to all of her family, as she gave of herself unselfishly. Mrs. Carpenter, a member of Wortham First Baptist Church, was a retired employee of Mexia State School. She had resided in Wortham for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; by three brothers - Wilson, Bedford and Coleman; by a sister, Ludie Jackson, and by a son, Jimmie Carpenter. Funeral services for Mrs. Carpenter will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel of Teague. Family visitation will be there this evening from 5 until 9 o'clock. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Carpenter of Pasadena, Don and Penny Carpenter of Teague; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Mickey Sunday of Bryan; Wilma and Eddie Simmons of Jemison, Alabama; Mary and Joe Loving of Dallas; JoAnn and John Brown of Corsicana; Melba Hullum of Pasadena; Lona and Larry Cates of Henderson; Dorothy and Bill Darby of Athens; and Carolyn and Bill Hunt of Tatum; 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
