Freestone County, Texas Obits Corsicana Daily Sun newspaper - Jan 6, 2003 edition Vernon D. Carpenter Vernon D. Carpenter, 62, of Streetman passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in Fairfield. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Corley Chapel. Elder Hugh Montgomery and Elder Michael Montgomery will officiate. Interment will follow at Newhope Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Tommy Crane, Ronald Crane, Randall Crane, Danny Price, Gary Maxwell and Charles Vickers. Mr. Carpenter was born on Feb. 28, 1940 in Groesbeck. He was a retired Residential Trainer at the State Home. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was preceded in death by mother Daisy Carpenter, father Ira Carpenter and step-mother Rosie Carpenter. Survivors include wife Martha Carpenter of Streetman; sons and daughters-in-law Robert Duane and Pam Carpenter of Mildred and Gregg and Donna Scott of Katy; daughters and sons-in-law Beth and Dan Nemeth of Corsicana and Karen and Gary Maxwell of Purdon; sisters Daisy Vickers of Baytown, Ernestine Tilmon of Kosse, Betty Hurs of Groesbeck, Gail Burrows of Channelview; step brothers Kenneth Brown, Melvin Brown and Curtis Brown all of Limestone County; step sister Lois Arnick of Limestone County; granddaughter Shea Gore of Corsicana and grandsons Brian Nemeth of Corsicana, Robert Duane "Rowdy" Carpenter Jr. of Mildred and Jacob Scott of Katy.
