Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - October 8, 2009 edition Chester Lee Carroll, Sr. Chester Lee Carroll Sr. was born to Sam B. Carroll Sr. and Mary Steene Carroll on May 7, 1919. He died October 4, 2009 at Fairfield Nursing and Rehab Center. Visitation was Monday, October 5 at Griffin- Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside services were Tuesday, October 6 at Fairfield Cemetery. Mr. Carroll is survived by sons, William Lee Carroll and wife Melinda of Corsicana, C.L. Carroll Jr. and wife Jeanette of Fairfield; daughter, LeeAnn Pilkington and husband James of Fairfield; Five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and office manager for 31 years Mozell Williams. Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lee Huckaby Carroll, whom he married on January 27, 1940; one grandchild; parents, Sam B. Carroll and Mary Steene Carroll; six brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Navy two years in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW Post 5872 Fairfield, charter member of Fairfield Lions Club, charter member of Freestone Country Club, and was a Fairfield business man for 65 years. Mr. Carroll was a cattleman buying and selling cattle. He sometimes made as many as six sales every week. He and wife Laura Lee hauled cattle to the Fort Worth Stock Yards.
