Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Doris Anne "Dee" (Ponder) Carroll Doris Anne "Dee" Carroll, 70, of Fairfield, TX, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Tyler, TX. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 Capps Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Cotton officiating. Mrs. Carroll was born April 5, 1942 in Dallas, TX to Mack Worth and Gwendolyn (Red) Ponder. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and attended The University of Texas at Austin. Dee lived in California for several years and then moved to Fairfield where she married John T. (Johnny) Carroll, Jr. Dee was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fairfield History Club, and a member of The Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Grand Matron. She was an active volunteer for the Freestone County Historical Museum and local Relay for Life, serving as co-chair for two years. She was proud of her work with Relay for Life, raising money for cancer research and was a breast cancer survivor. Doris is survived by her husband of 30 years, John T. Carroll, Jr. of Fairfield; her only child Jennifer Russell and husband Shawn of Little Elm; one grandson, Cameron Russell of Little Elm; one sister, Micki Burnside and husband Tom of Dallas; and one brother, Bruce Ponder and wife Judy, of Dallas. Dee is also survived by numerous sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
