Freestone County, Texas Obits Houston Chronicle newspaper - Wednesday 01/05/2005 edition CARROLL JANE BONNER SNEED CARROLL, 89, passed away in Houston on Saturday, January 1, 2005. She was a loving mother to Sallie and Nancy and a giving and teaching grandmother to her five grandchildren. A natural teacher, her passion was that all children should learn to read so that they might read to learn. She was born the only child of Dr. and Mrs. James Edward Sneed in Teague, Texas, June 27, 1915. She attended the University of Texas and upon graduation began work at the Texas State Department of Health. There she met William Donald Carroll whom she married in 1939 and with whom she enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his death in 1994. She is survived by her daughters Sallie (Mrs. Edwin T. Davis, Jr.) and Nancy (Mrs. James M. Ogden) and their husbands E. Ted Davis and Jim Ogden; her grandchildren William Donald Davis and his wife Sherri, Edwin T. Davis, III (Thad) and his wife Amanda, James Scott Ogden, William Christopher Ogden, and Mary Jane Winkenhofer and her husband Brian, and her great-grandson William Donald Davis, Jr. The family has been blessed by the faithful care given by loving ladies for the past eleven years. Most especially, we thank Rosie Ross for her tireless and gentle care. We are also most grateful to Gloria Brisco and Pat Hudson for their loving care in Houston and to Alice Lockett and Rosa Trujillo in Austin. A memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning Thursday, January 6, 2005 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with Dr. James Moore officiating.
