Antonio Chatman was a passenger in a vehicle that stalled then was swept off by the rain. Chatman’s body was lost in the water until early Saturday morning when it was discovered a mile from the car, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. The car was driven by Chatman’s father’s girlfriend, Freestone County Sheriff Ralph Billings said. According to the Sheriff, Chatman’s party got lost near the city of Kirvin enroute to Waco from Corsicana. “She got into a low area, where the road crosses a creek, and the car drowned out in high water,” Billings told the Tribune-Herald. As the water began to rise, the other people in the car were swept away. Chatman was lost in the chaos, according to the Tribune-Herald. “We were hopeful we would find the young man alive, but we didn’t,” Billings told the Tribune-Herald. “It’s just a very regrettable and unfortunate thing.” Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ross and Johnson Mortuary in Corsicana.
