Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Teague Chronicle April 3, 2008 ALVIS WARD COBB, JR. Alvis Ward Cobb, Jr. went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2008. He was born on March 15, 1928, to parents Alvis Ward Cobb and Gladys Speer Cobb in Mexia, Texas. He spent his early years in Mexia, moved to Teague and graduated from Teague High School. In 1945, Alvis enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. After his discharge from the Navy, he married Marilyn Russ in the First United Methodist Church of Teague on October 23, 1948. He began his career with Sinclair Oil Company in Mexia, Texas. Sinclair became Arco, and he retired in 1983 at Area Superintendent of the Arco Chemical Plant in Channelview, Texas. After his retirement he and his wife bought a plant nursery in Point Blank, Texas, and they moved to their lake house on Lake Livingston where they lived for 28 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis Ward Cobb, Sr. and Gladys Speer Cobb and his brother Donald Cobb. Mr. Cobb is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Marilyn; his children Bruce Cobb of Baytown, Texas, Paul Cobb and wife Martha of Pasadena, Texas, Teresa Cobb Warren of League City, Texas, Cathy Cobb of Webster, Texas and Terah Aultman and husband Mark of Spring, Texas; his brother David Cobb and wife Nancy Roberts of Teague, Texas. He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service was held on March 27, 2008, at the League City United Methodist Church and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the League City United Methodist Church Building Fund, or to your favorite charity.
