Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - Feb. 24, 2011 edition ROBERT COBBS Funeral services were held Saturday at Bowers Funeral Home of Teague for Robert Cobbs, 84, of Freestone county who died Feb. 16 at Copper Creek Nursing Home in Buffalo. Interment followed at Union Cemetery near Freestone with an honor guard provided by the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Cobbs was born in Freestone county, but lived in Houston for many years where he worked as a truck driver and enjoyed the long trips he took with his job. On Feb. 22, 1948 he married Merle and shared almost 63 years together. He retired and moved back to the family farm in 1979. Mr. Cobbs also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He believed in God, family, and country. Mr. Cobbs raised cattle and horses for many years. He could do anything with a horse and was an accomplished roper. Mr. Cobbs loved to visit with people and spent many hours on his front porch watching cars drive by. He was a Baptist and served as deacon while he lived in Houston at Cedar Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. Mr. Cobbs was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Martin and Eloise Cobbs; sister and brotherin law Anne Lingor and husband John. He is survived by his wife Merle Cobbs of Teague, daughters Charlene Figgins of Teague, Catherine Cobbs of Houston, and Barbara Cobbs of Teague; grandsons Dewyane Casteel of New Orleans, LA, Robert Casteel and wife Jennifer of Springtown, and T.J. Taylor of Teague; granddaughter Hope Brewer and husband Ronnie of Fairfield; seven great- grandchildren; brother Jesse B. Cobbs of Berwick, LA; and other relatives and friends. Officiating services was Walter Pickens. Making arrangements was Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
