Unfortunately, Tom left us for a better place on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, he was 58 years old. Tom attended school in Teague ISD and graduated from Teague High School a very proud member of the class of ’68. During his years in the Teague School system, Tom excelled in athletics, academics and made many lifelong friends. Upon graduation he then moved to Kingsville, Texas where he attended Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville). After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Tom moved to San Marcos, Texas where he attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) and earned a second bachelors degree in education. Next, Tom married his college sweetheart and wife of 28 years, Peggy Sue Pell from League City, Texas. The couple moved to Kyle, Texas where Tom acquired the position of Advertising Manager for The Hays County Citizen, where Peggy was also Editor of the publication. Following his advertising position, he began working with a local homebuilder and had found his niche. Within a short period of time the doors of Collins Construction Company were opened for business in Kyle, Texas. Upon the news of the couples’ pregnancy, they left the Hill Country and moved back to Teague where he had substantial success with his Custom Home Building and General Contracting Company. Back home in Teague, with the help of his wife, family and many, many friends, they raised two loving children, Will and Robin, who both loved their dad very much. In addition to Home Building, Tom also spent many years farming and raising cattle on the family farm near Kirvin, Texas. In 1991 Tom was able to move his family into the house in which he was raised located at 814 Magnolia Street. In the town of Teague, and more specifically, his childhood home, is where Tom spent the remainder of his days surrounded with love, family and friends. Tom loved to be around people and was truly a lover of life. There is no doubt that he enjoyed his many years in the town he called home.
