Freestone County, Texas Obituaries James Edward Compton (January 9, 1932 - August 19, 2008) Funeral services for Mr. Ed Compton were held on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 10:00a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague with Mark Compton officiating. Interment followed the services at Cade Cemetery in Streetman with Charles Ethridge officiating. James Martin Compton, Kenny Tyner, Keith Tyner, Michael Compton, Charlie Thompson, Bud Robinson, Jerry Maggard, and Craig Oaks served as pallbearers. J. E. (Ed) Compton was born on January 9, 1932, and passed from this earth and entered into the glory and bliss of our Lord God’s Home at 7:20pm on August 19, 2008, at Good Sheppard Hospital in Longview, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Irby Lee Compton and Mary Hayes Compton of Streetman; one brother, J. S. Compton of Streetman; and a number of paternal and maternal uncles and aunts. He is survived by two sons, Mark Edward Compton of Longview, and Halvin Jay Compton of Wortham; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Pate & husband Arvin of Teague and Melinda Martin & husband Fred of Chickasha, OK; seven grandchildren, James Edward Compton II, Jarrod Phillips, Jeff and Michael Ballard, Kayla Sullivan and Donna Satterwhite; nine great-grand children; one brother, Kenneth Ellis (Sonny) Compton & wife Suzanne of Teague; two sisters, Mary Lee Tyner & husband Joe Kenneth of Freeport and Jimmy Casey & husband Tommy of Bastrop; three aunts, Jimmy Fay Reese & husband Martin, Carmine Compton of Dallas, and Effie Compton of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There are two very special survivors to Ed’s life The Mother of his children, ex wife, and lifelong friend Martha Ann Proffit of Teague and a very devoted friend and caregiver Trina Curry of Longview.
