Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Buford Cooper Funeral services for Buford Cooper, age 85, of Buffalo and formerly of Austin, were held at 10 A.M., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home. Bro. Carl Clark, pastor of the Corinth Baptist Church in Dew, officiated and interment was in the Post Oak Cemetery near Fairfield, Texas. Serving as pallbearers were nephews, Ward Easterling, Jessie Roy Cooper, Buddy Upchurch, Mark Buford Cooper, Johnny D. Cooper and Donnie Schultz. Buford Cooper was born in Freestone County to Mark J. & Jewel Alma (Rankin) Cooper. He graduated from high school in 1949. He was soon hired by Jack Brown to work at the State Capital in Austin and retired as the Maintenance Supervisor. Buford loved to hunt and fish. He and his wife, Patricia, had lived in Buffalo for the past twenty years, coming from Austin. Buford was a member of the Buffalo Masonic Lodge #554 and the Corinth Baptist Church in Dew. He passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 in Palestine following a brief illness. Buford was preceded in death by both of his parents and brothers, Elroy & Mark Allen Cooper. Surviving family members include wife of forty-five years, Patricia “Pat” Cooper of Buffalo; brother, Gary John “Johnny” Cooper & wife, Donna, of Buffalo; sisters, Bonnie Dale Easterling & husband, Curtis, of the Evans Chapel Community in Leon County and Ruby Lounell Zufall & husband, Richard, of Rice and numerous nieces and nephews. Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo is in charge of all arrangements.
