Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle 01/07/2010 CHARLES ARNOLD COPELAND Funeral services for Charles Arnold Copeland, age 69, of Buffalo, Texas, were held on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Buffalo. Rev. Kevin Gilmore, pastor of the church, officiated and burial followed at Dew Cemetery. Charles was born in Freestone County on November 3, 1940, to John Copeland, Sr. and his wife, Bettie (Vann) Copeland. He was raised in Buffalo and lived most of his life in the Lanely Community in South Freestone County. His church membership was at Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church. He retired as a dragline operator at TXU coal mine near Fairfield. Charles married Emma Ruth Dawson on August 2, 1957 and celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this past year. Charles Copeland was strictly a family man and did not like to travel anywhere unless he could be with family and friends. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a professional Coon Hunter and served as treasurer of the Texas State Coon Hunters Association. Charles Copeland touched the lives of many young men by introducing them to Coon Hunting. He often gave Coon Dog puppies for the youngsters in order to help them get a start in hunting. Mr. Copeland passed away at his home on December 31, 2009. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Joe Lee Copeland and Don Copeland, and his sisters Faye Watson and Sue Waters. Surviving Charles Copeland are his wife Emma Copland of the Lanely Community; his son David Copeland of the Lanely Community; his daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Brian Hughes of Fairfield, Patsy and David Walker of Fairfield and Kathy and Mark Hull of Teague; his brothers John Copeland, Jr. of Conroe, Barton Copeland of Grand Prairie and Earnest Copeland of Scurry, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jeff Hughes and wife Misty, Erin Harris and husband Kurt, James Compton and wife Kim, Steven Hull and wife Beth, Shelley Baxter and husband Andrew, Bradley Walker, Charlie Hull and Kristen Copeland and his great grandchildren Payton, Allie, Mason, Cole and Tristan. Pallbearers for Mr. Copeland were Wesley Henson, Jeffrey Hartley, Steve Ward, Guy Manning, Tyree Gatson and Jim Daniel. Honorary pallbearers were Craig Graham, Troy Cox, Glenn St. John, Earl Odom, Ebb Hayne, Howard Myers and Calvin Williams. Walters Buffalo Funeral Home of Buffalo was in charge of the arrangements.
