Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper May 14, 2009 Wayne Elbert Cox Funeral services were held last Saturday for Wayne Elbert Cox, 73, of Tyler who died Wednesday, May 6. Mr. Cox was born in Corsicana on Aug. 6, 1936 to Elbert and Gladys Cox. He attended school in Corsicana and later moved to Fairfield. Mr. Cox and his wife had two daughters and he was employed by TXI and Capps Memorial Chapel. He was an avid fisherman and a member of a gospel group. Mr. Cox enjoyed working with his friends at Sam's Club in Tyler and spending time with his family and granddaughters. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Grace Chapel Assembly in Tyler with Leonard Allgood, Marty Thomas and Tom Maddux officiating. Burial followed at Fairfield Cemetery with Buddy Turner conducting the services. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Sloan, Bill Burton, Alan Flippo, Jim Gee, Will Finch, Russell Ballinger, Rodger Ballinger and Ritchie Ballinger. Honorary pallbearers are Glen White, Don Phelps, Tommy Campbell, Jessie Earl Jones, Jacob Thomas and Dean Dechiro. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lawanda Cox of Tyler; daughters, Susan Johnson and husband Kim of Fairfield, Stacey Noble and husband Shane of Tyler; granddaughters, Lacey Johnson of Fairfield, and Kaitlyn and Madison Noble of Tyler; sister, Paula Ballinger of Greenville; and stepmother, Elsie Cox. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Dewayne. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler.
