Funeral services were held Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home Chapel of Mexia 
for Mary Cox, 76, of Cotton Gin who died Monday at her home.

Interment followed at Point Enterprise Cemetery of Mexia.

Mrs. Cox was born September 30, 1934, in Oklahoma to Al and Nita Perkins 
Johnson.

She worked as a jailor for the Freestone County Sheriff Department for many 
years.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Leroy 
Johnson, Richard Johnson and James Johnson.

She is survived by her husband L.D. “Sonny” Cox of Cotton Gin, children Janet
Heim and husband Barney of Henderson, Alvin Glenn and wife Debbie of Gilmer, 
Gail Stephens and husband Pat of Henderson and Rickie Glenn and wife Terrie 
of Henderson; sister Lenora Gibson of Longview; stepchildren Kathy Villarreal
and husband Vic of Fairfield, Susan Cox and husband Gerry of Mexia and Kay 
Charchio and husband Mark of Houghton, LA; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-
grandchildren; best friend Marie Lide of Cotton Gin; and numerous nieces, 
nephews and extended family.

Officiating services was the Reverend Eddie Hayworth and Pat Stephens.

Making arrangements was Porter Funeral Home of Mexia.
