Freestone County, Texas Obituaries http://www.cappschapel.com/sitemaker/sites/CappsM1/obit.cgi?user=292888CROSBY Leila Miles Crosby March 2, 1910 - December 15, 2010 Biography Leila Miles Crosby, 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at The Waterton Plaza Nursing Home in Tyler, Texas. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but she will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and determination, even as the years took their toll on her health. Leila was born in Freestone County near Fairfield on March 2, 1910 to Edgar and Buena Miles. The family moved to Fairfield in 1920. She attended school in Fairfield from the 5th to the 10th grades. Since Fairfield schools went only through the 10th grade, she was among a group of 13 students invited by Dr. Hardin of Baylor Academy in Belton, Texas to finish high school at the academy. She was Salutatorian of her class. This school is now known as Mary-Hardin Baylor University. She finished her degree there to prepare her to teach school. She taught in several schools in different states and retired in Dallas, Texas. While teaching in Dallas, she finished her Masters degree in counseling from North Texas University. Leila dearly loved teaching, the students, and the challenges required of her. Leila married Ernest M. Crosby in Fairfield on February 7, 1934 and they had three children, Elisabeth Crosby Bonner; Miles "Buddy" Crosby and Carol Crosby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Crosby in 1998; her son, Miles "Buddy" Crosby in 1986; her parents and three brothers, E.G. Miles; Benjamin Miles and Joe Miles. Leila is survived by her daughters, Elisabeth Crosby Bonner and her husband Leslie R. Bonner of Bullard, TX and Carol Crosby of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Amy Bonner Drott and husband Earl of Tyler, TX and Anna Kate Bonner Brown and husband John of Dallas, TX; grandson, Reid Bonner of Sunnyvale, TX. Glenn Segler is also a survivor and special family member. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Andrew Bonner Drott; Catherine Elisabeth Drott; Kyle Kramer Drott; William Fielding Brown and Hayden Bonner Brown. A very important survivor, one sister, Kathryn Miles Davis and her husband Lee Judson Davis of Fairfield. Leila was an avid bridge player, a watercolorist and active in her book club and Retired Teachers of Dallas, TX. She credited her sharp mind to being a bridge player for many years. She was known for her crossword puzzles and just being interested in life and everyone she knew. She loved her family and attended family events whenever she could. Honorary pallbearers are, Lee Judson Davis; Leslie Reid Bonner; brother-in-law, L. Kenneth Crosby. Pallbearers will be grandson, Reid Bonner; great-grandsons, Andrew Drott; Kyle Drott; Fielding Brown; Hayden Brown; nephews, George Davis; Warren Davis and his son, Ben Davis; grandsons-in-law, Earl Drott and John Brown.
