Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle Feb. 25, 2010 issue DOROTHY LUCILLE HARMAN CRYER Funeral services for Dorothy Lucille Harman Cryer, 86, of Fairfield, were held on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield. Rev. T. Paul Kethley of First United Methodist Church of Fairfield officiated with burial following the services at Dew Cemetery. Dorothy was born on September 17, 1923, in Shiro, Texas to Frank and Mattie Harman. After graduating from high school, she moved to Houston and attended secretarial school. During World War II she worked at Camp Wallace military training facility near Galveston and later at Westcott & Gries in Houston. She married David Cryer on February 23, 1947, and they made their home in Northwest Houston. Their daughter Mary was born in 1969. During the 1970s Mrs. Cryer ran a private child care business. The couple retired in 1980 and moved to Dew, Texas. Mrs. Cryer enjoyed gardening, was an excellent seamstress, and loved playing 42. In their later years, she and her husband traveled all over the country in their RV. She found great enjoyment in playing with her three grandchildren who loved their "MeMe" for her childlike sense of fun. Mrs. Cryer was a lifelong member of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Cryer passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, David Cryer, in 2003. Mrs. Cryer is survived by her daughter Mary Cryer Awalt and husband Don of Fairfield; her grandchildren Owen, Gracie and Meredith Awalt; her sisters-in-law Mary Nelle Dodd of Azle, Texas and Margaret Harman of Huntsville; her nieces and nephews Marilyn Fontenot of Hitchcock, Barbara Leago of Bayou Vista, Diane Calhoun of Azle, Howard Harman of Hitchcock, Randall Dodd of Washington, D.C. and Randy Bentley of Fort Worth.
