Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle July 19, 2007 REV. LEE ARNOLD (L.A.) DAVIS Funeral services for Reverend Lee Arnold (L.A.) Davis, 84, of Wortham, Texas, were held on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Mexia, Texas. Rev. Claude Jackson, Pastor of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church in Mexia; Elder Vernon Busby, Pastor of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Mexia and Elder Terrance A. Ford, Moderator of Zion Rest Primitive Baptist District Association conducted the services. Interment was at Wortham Cemetery in Wortham, Texas. Rev. Davis was born on January 4, 1923, in Freestone County, Texas and passed away on Monday, July 8, 2007, at Veteran’s Health Care System in Temple, Texas. Rev. Davis lived all of his life in Freestone County where he worked as a farmer, a school bus driver and a carpenter. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on November 28, 1944. Rev. Davis was Third Vice President of The Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Association; Pastored Eastern Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Beulah Baptist Church of Kirven, Sardis Primitive Baptist Church in Mexia and Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in Teague. Rev. Davis is survived by his loving wife Sammie Lee Randle Davis of Wortham, his sons Joe Davis of Robstown, Texas; Charlie Davis and Neal Davis both of Houston; Lawrence Davis and wife Myrtle of Dallas; J.C. Davis of Fort Worth; Clint Davis and wife Jacklen of League City; Donald Davis of Hearne; Raymond Davis of Houston; Roy Randle and wife Linda of Fort Worth; George Chambers and wife Linda of Mexia; David Chambers and wife Gina of Ohio; Darrell Chambers of Fort Worth; Leonard Davis and wife Amanda of Frisco; his daughters Dorothy Collins of Fayette, Mississippi; Janice Davis of Robstown; Linda Knight of West Palm Beach, Florida; Peggy Wideman and husband Dennis of Wortham; Donna Chambers of Decatur, Georgia; Betty Macklin of Wortham; Shandra Horn and husband David of Mexia and Gloria Nell Johnson and husband Tommy of Corpus Christi. The grandson he raised Lemonte Chambers and wife Donna of San Antonio; his brother-in-law Joe Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada; 42 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren that he adored, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive Rev. Davis. Casket bearers for Rev. Davis were Joe Davis, Charlie Davis, Neil Davis, Lawrence Davis, J.C. Davis, Clint Davis, Donald Davis and Raymond Davis.
