Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder December 03, 2007 Donald Steven Davis Donald Steven Davis, 50, of Hearne, died Nov. 22 in Temple among family and friends. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mexia. Rev. James Crawford of The Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne will officiate. Davis was born June 27, 1957 in Wortham to Rev. L.A. Davis and Maggie Johnson Davis. His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Davis was baptized in the Baptist Church at an early age. He graduated from Wortham high school with the class of 1975. He excelled in athletics at Wortham high school and was awarded a scholarship to Texas Christian University where he received a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1992. Davis continued his education at Lamar University, earning his teaching certificate. An active member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne, Davis served faithfully in any capacity in which he was needed. On Aug. 15, 1999, he became an ordained deacon of the church. For more than 15 years, Davis was a teacher coach in the Hearne Independent School District. He taught art and coached junior high basketball and high school football. He was a member of the professional teacher organizations as well as the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Additionally, Davis was a gifted electrician. Survivors are his stepmother Mrs. Sammie Lee Davis of Wortham, brothers Joe Davis of Robstown, Charles Davis, Neal Davis and Raymond Davis, all of Houston, Lawrence Davis and wife Myrtle of Dallas, Lynn Davis, Darrell Chambers, Roy Chambers and wife Linda, all of Ft. Worth; Clint Davis and wife Jackie of League City, George Chambers and wife Linda of Mexia, David Chambers and wife Gina of Ohio, and Leonard Davis and wife Amanda of Frisco; Sisters Dorothy Collins, Fayette, Miss., Janice Davis of Robstown, Linda Knight of West Palm Beach, Fla., Peggy Wideman and husband Dennis and Betty Macklin, all of Wortham; Donna Chambers of Decatur, Ga., Shandra Horn and husband David of Mexia, Gloria Johnson and husband Tommy of Corpus Christi; uncle Joe Johnson of Fresno, Cal., and special friends Jeanette Moody and Clarrisa Rabon. Burial will be at Sessions Cemetery in Kirvin. Pallbearers will be his brothers. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Gordon, Aransom Hunter, Oliver Davis, James Davis, Willis Adams, Jimmy L. Jones, deacons of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and Hearne ISD coaching staff.
