Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper Oct 26, 2008 Johnny Harold Davis, Sr. Funeral services were held Sunday for Johnny Harold Davis, 71, of Freestone who died Thursday, Oct. 23, at his residence. Mr. Davis was born in Buffalo on March 3, 1937, to Mansel Wilburn and Ethel Mae Shields Davis. but lived most of his life in Houston. He worked in construction, retiring from the Iron Workers Union. Mr. Davis helped construct the Limestone Generating Station among many other construction projects. He lived most of his life in Houston and moved to Freestone 30 years ago. As an avid collector of sports memorabilia, Mr. Davis once owned and operated Grand Slam Sports in Fairfield and Palestine. He was also a member of Freestone Baptist Church. Mr. Davis is survived by his special friend, Shari James of Freestone; daughters, Kathy Huggins and husband Roger of Freestone and Peggy Davis and Chris Hawke of Houston; son, Gerald Davis and wife Rosemary of Houston; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and dogs, Reba, Gretchen and Charlie Brown. He was preceded in death by his son Johnny Harold Davis, Jr. and his parents Mansel Wilburn and Ethel Mae Shields Davis. Arrangements were made by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
