Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - May. 14, 2004 edition Wilmer Davis, Sr. Funeral services for Wilmer (Bill) Davis, Sr., 96, of Mexia, will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in Sweet Home Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Smith, pastor, will officiate. The Rev. Kevin VanHook, pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Waco, will serve as eulogist. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery-Mexia, under direction of Moore's Angelic Funeral Home-Teague. Mr. Davis, who had been residing in the Manor Healthcare Center, died Tuesday in Parkview Regional Hospital. He was born April 18, 1908, in Cotton Gin (Freestone County). A retired employee of Southern Pacific Railroad and Youngblood Construction Company, Mr. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was a member of Launza Chapel United Methodist Church of Mexia. Viewing will be today until 7 p.m., and the family will be present for visitation from 6 until 7 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church, 311 North Baker Street. Surviving are his children - Mrs. Ella Davis Busby of Mexia; Wilmer Davis, Jr., of Mexia; Larry and Helen Davis of Houston; Wilma and Lordine Brewer of Mexia; Eddie Davis of Mexia; Robert and Francis Davis of Mexia; Debra Davis of Mexia; Ronnie and Lisa Davis of Waco, and Darrell Davis of Waco. Also surviving are his sisters - Alma C. Spivey of Mexia and Pat Jackson of Dallas; grandchildren - Gregory Davis, Wilmer R. Davis, Patrick Dixon, Tarsha Bolden Garrett, Yolanda Keeling, Tammy Strain, Melvalyn Jones, Anita Busby, Gerry Ravnell, Byron Ravnell, Tina Owens, Raybun Davis, Latricia Davis, Galvin Davis, Joey Davis, Jacob Davis, Angela Davis, Mary Davis, Timothy Davis, Tisha Henson, Chris Henson, Rhonda Davis, Shannon Harris, Dana Harris, Christie Harris and Michael Davis; 26 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
