Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Malakoff News newspaper - Friday, Nov 16, 1962 - Page: 2 A BELATED item of news interest to many Malakoff people and one that the News failed to record, was the death of a former and well-known Malakoffian, Jim Davis, which occured October 24th at Terrell Hospital. The News was not aware of Mr. Davis' demise until well after the burial service and even then we were unable to come into possession of sufficient details to compose a fitting story. For this omission we are humbly regretful. Jim Davis was a kind and loyal friend of this newspaper and his passing marked "30" to another faithful subscriber. Mr. Davis, with his daughter, Ruby, his sister, Miss Pearl Davis and his brothers, Neal and Tom, moved to Malakoff in the late teens and it was our privilege to fill their first grocery bill during our early day employment in the store of the late George B. Thompson. The Davis' have been our friends since that time, and we are not only regretful at the news of his death, but also that we were unable to record his passing among the events of time. The last rites for this, our longtime friend, were held on Friday, October 26th at the First Baptist Church with Rev. S. C. Irvin, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial was in the Birdston Cemetery at Streetman, Texas. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Ruby Calloway of Hutchins; one sister, Mrs. Alice Brayson of Dallas; one grandchild; one great-grandchild, and three great- great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for the funeral service were Joe Faulk, Marles Drake, Joe Barrett, Oscar Philips Jr., Emmett Monroe and George Cross.
