Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Submitted by Billie Bournias The Fairfield Recorder [1877] Freestone county lost one of her best and oldest citizens in the death of Mr. William R. Daviss, which occurred on last Friday morning, the 15th of June. The deceased was a native of Kentucky, but came to this county from Alabama, about twenty-five years ago; being among the first settlers. At one time during the war, he was called to the office of County Treasurer, and his official duties were honestly and efficiently performed. Mr. Daviss raised a large family, most of whom have settled in this county, and some by marriage have removed elsewhere; - one, Mrs. James H. Collett, residing in Galveston, and Mrs. J.C. Littlepage, wife of a prominent Methodist minister, at Huntsville. Mr. Daviss was about sixty-five years old.
