Day (1926-2011) (Posted Mon) Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Day will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Teague. Bro. Darrell Beggs and Bro. Scott Matthews will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday with the family present from 5-8 p. m. at the Funeral Home. Mr. Day, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Teague Nursing Home surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Day served as Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 691, Teague, Texas, for over twenty-five years. He has served on the District Camping Committee, Training team and has actively participated in Philmont Expeditions and Jamboree activities. Herbert served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He retired from teaching at Teague I.S.D. after thirty-one years. Mr. Day was a recipient of the “Bill Boyd Cup” which is presented to outstanding citizens by the Teague Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Day has the reputation of being a front line worker on any project that is undertaken to benefit his community. As recognition for his many years of service to the Scouts of America, Herbert was presented with the Silver Beaver Award, the Scouts highest award that can be presented by a council of volunteer leaders in the program. Mr. Day was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and served as Deacon for many years. He is survived by his wife, Dora Day of Teague; daughter, Paula Day of Teague; sons, Johnny Day of Teague and Larry Day of Mexia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Hue and Susan Day; and sisters Vivian Newman, Geraldine Wylie and Clarice Baird.
