Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [Submitted by: Linda Mullen John Martin Day - b 18 Aug 1827; d 16 May 1898] Fairfield Recorder - May 20, 1898 DIED - Our old country man, Mr. John M. Day died Monday, the 16th inst., at his residence in the Rock Springs neighborhood, about 12 miles east of Fairfield. The deceased was one of our county’s oldest citizens. He was about 74 years old, and came to this county, one of its pioneer settlers, some years before the war, living all the while in the eastern part of the county. He went to the war from the county, and was a member of Capt. J.C. Means Company. He was a member of the Baptist Church and also belonged to the Masonic Lodge, by which order his remains were laid to rest in the old Rehoboth Cemetery. He leaves a wife and six or seven children.
