Visitation with family is scheduled for Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home of Teague. Funeral services for Mr. DeBerry will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Eighth Avenue Baptist Church of Teague. Burial will be in Mexia Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mexia Daily News- May. 18, 2004 edition Wiley Overton DeBerry TEAGUE - Wiley Overton DeBerry, 92, of Teague, died Friday, May 14, in Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. His family was by his side when death came. Mr. DeBerry, born Sept. 29, 1911, to Overton and Janie Williams DeBerry in Jewett, was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Inez Brotherton DeBerry; by his parents; two brothers, Douglas DeBerry and Ray DeBerry, and by four sisters, Ora Jackson, Florence Ferguson, Vashti Holmes and Mae Ivy. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine and Glen White, and Nelda and Eddie DeZell of Pasadena; grandchildren - Jerry Glen White of Houston, Steve DeZell of Winnie, Lori Druckenbrodt and husband Bobby of LaPorte, Kristi Deardorff and Linda Cook of Pasadena. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Jessica, Tabatha, Charley, Justin, Christopher, Kaitlynne, Mason, Brittney and Hunter. He is also survived by great-great-grandchildren - Madelynn, Davin and Haley. He leaves numerous special nephews, nieces and a host of relatives and friends. Mr. DeBerry was a longtime resident of Leon County, having resided in the Jewett area before moving to Mexia. He was a retired employee of Mexia State School, was a member of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Funeral services for Mr. DeBerry will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock in Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Charley Holmes, President of the BMA Seminary in Jacksonville, and great-nephew of Mr. DeBerry, and the Rev. Paul Gauntt. Burial will be in Mexia Cemetery, under direction of Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home. The DeBerry family expresses thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nurses who care for him at Parkview Regional Hospital. They were especially caring, just as they were when Mrs. DeBerry died on May 15, 2003. The famly also expresses appreciation to the entire staff of the Teague Nursing Home for their loving care and concern. A very special thank you to friends, Kenneth and Sue Beasley, J.W. and Dorothy Fitzgerald, Robert and Estelle Baldree, Mary Wills, and to so many friends at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for their many acts of kindnesses and help.
