Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - December 21, 1933 AGED WHITE MAN MURDERED SUNDAY; NO CLUE TO MURDERER C.J. DeMoss, aged about 75, living on Sterling Sims' farm, five or six miles north of Kirven, was found dead on the fallery of the house where he lived alone about dark, Sunday evening. He had been killed by a blow on the head from a small cotton scale found near the body. Motive for the killing is unknown. DeMoss had about $30 in his pocket when found. Sheriff Sessions began an investigation, and lodged one suspect in jail on suspicion, but no definite clue as to the murderer has been found. DeMoss lived by himself but is reported to have grown children living in other sections of the state. Justice J.E. Lott held and inquest, and rendered a verdict that DeMoss was murdered by unknown party or parties.
