Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Donald D. DeZelle Graveside services for Donald D. DeZelle, 94, will be held Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Rev. Alan Van Hooser will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home. At 2:30 p.m., the funeral procession will line up and travel from the funeral home to the cemetery. DeZelle passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Teague Nursing Home. He was born in Ben Hur and moved to Mexia at an early age. He graduated from Mexia High School with the class of 1938 and went to work for the Coca-Cola plant for the next 15 years. DeZelle moved to Fort Worth and worked as a deputy sheriff for Tarrant County and later as assistant manager for several Buddy’s Grocery locations. He moved to Teague in the early 1970s and went to work for the Mexia State School where he remained until his retirement in 1988. DeZelle enjoyed fishing and visiting the Confederate Reunion grounds near Lake Mexia. He was a Methodist by faith. DeZelle was preceded in death by his wife, Maudie Faye “Peggy” DeZelle; one son, Oscar Neal DeZelle, and his parents, Marion and Jewel DeZelle. He is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Boaz and husband Phillip of Tyler; two sisters, Datha DeZelle Crutchfield and Kathleen DeZelle Hager and husband Ercel, all of Mexia; one brother, Glendon O. DeZelle and wife Athalee of Waco; one grandson, Robert Boaz; two great-grandsons, Anthony Boaz and Justin Boaz; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
