Services are pending at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street, Teague, Texas. Mrs. Dixon is survived by her sister, Carolyn Milton and husband, Percell of Barry, Texas. ========================================================= Waco Tribune-Herald July 24, 2006 - July 26, 2006 Gloria was a retired Buyer for The Army Air Force Exchange Service and returned to Teague after retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church where the Rev. J. McDowell is pastor. Valedictorian of the Booker T. Washington Class of 1956 in Teague, Gloria attended Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University in Houston. Gloria was active in many civic and church organizations. She was the NAACP ACTO-SO Youth Council Advisor, 2003 Recipient of the Boyd Cup in Teague; Outstanding Citizen of the Year in Teague for the year 2000; Board Member of the Teague Community Lord's Storehouse; Member of the Teague Chamber Of Commerce; Founder of the Teague Community Theater; Judge for Precinct 2; a noted City and County Leader; and Founder of the Virgel Dixon Scholarship Fund. Gloria was married to MSgt. Loyd Gillespie who was killed in action during the Viet Nam War. Her 32 year marriage to Virgel Dixon ended in his death in February of 2004. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Callie Henderson Brown, of Teague; sister, Carolyn Milton and husband, Purcell, of Barry, Texas; brothers, Nat Brown and wife, Brenda, of Dayton, Ohio, George Brown and wife, Dorothy, of Kansas City, Mo., Harold Blaine Brown and wife, Ann, of Winston Salem, N.C., Bill Brown, of Teague, and Homer Brown and wife, Dena, of Houston; a step-daughter, Tina Latimer and husband, Donnie, of Overland Park, Kan. and their children, Braxon Flemming, and Brenan and Corey Latimer, of Overland Park, Kan.; aunts, Eva Watts and Arrie Bell Brown, both of Teague; ten nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
