Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder June 2008 Jack Dodd Memorial services were held Monday for Jack F. Dodd, 81, of Azle who died Thursday, June 19, at his residence. Mr. Dodd, a Fort Worth native, was the son of Claude and Effie Dodd. He grew up on the north side of Fort Worth near the stockyards and later moved to North Beach where he graduated from Birdville high school in Haltom City. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific theater. After returning home, he graduated from Texas Wesleyan University and then took a job with Lone Star Gas Company where he worked until retirement. An accomplished musician, he played trombone for the Dallas Cowboys as a member of the Lions Club Band, and more recently played bass trombone in the Shrine Band, Fort Worth City Band and the Big Band of Stephenville. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was a 50-year member of Haltom City Lodge 1331 A.F. and A.M. and Moslah Temple Shrine. Services were held Monday, June 23 at First United Methodist Church of Azle. Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Mary Nelle Dodd of Azle; son Randall Dodd and wife Dierdre of Washington, D.C.; daughter Diane Calhoun of Azle; grandson Randy Bentley and wife Tiffany of Azle; grandson Henry Kenneth Dodd of Washington, D.C.; great-grandson Alex Bentley of Fort Worth; and niece Mary Cryer Awalt of Fairfield.
