TX Obits from the San Angelo Standard-Times The San Angelo Standard - Times Online - July 31, 1998 JOHNNIE DRAKE DONALSON STERLING CITY - Johnnie (Drake) Donalson, 92, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, in Sterling County Nursing Home. She was the youngest of four children born to John Henry Drake and Bessie Sims Drake on July 22, 1906, in Cotton Gin, Texas, in Freestone County. She moved to San Angelo on Feb. 1, 1921, and married Horrace Donalson on Sept. 9, 1925. They had one daughter, Betty Jane Donalson, born in Miles on Aug. 16, 1929. After taking a course in telegraphy, she worked at the State Sanitarium and Western Union. For more than 20 years, Mrs. Donalson served as city secretary for Sterling City. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and active in the First Presbyterian Church. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Miles Cemetery in Miles. The Rev. John Winteringham will officiate. Arrangements are by Ross Funeral Home. Surviving is one sister, Sue Drake of San Angelo; one son-in-law, Billy H. Barbee of Sterling City, a grandson, B. Hull Barbee, and two great-granddaughters, Allison and Kristen Barbee of Longview; a niece, Linda Beth Butcher of Fort Worth; two great-nephews, RuckerBarrett of Garland and Don Barrett of Lubbock; a sister-in-law of Fort Worth; several nieces and nephews; and several sisters and brothers-in-law. One brother, one sister, her husband and daughter preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Delmar Radde, Dean Johnson, Lynn Glass, Larry Glass, Charlie Davis and Winn McClure. Honorary pallbearer will be David Glass.
