They entered a store to obtain food and J. F. Dunlap, the proprietor, covered them with a gun and they surrendered. Late last night, however, Bob Watkins of Elkhart, who was a member of the posse hunting the men, was shot and killed through a mistake, and Hunter Quaries, who was with him, was slightly wounded. Men had been placed along a road to watch for the robbers and to stop anyone trying to pass. Watkins and his companions were walking along the road when someone of the other posse, thinking they were the highwaymen, shot them with a rifle. Watkins lived at Elkhart and had a family. Rangers passed through here today going to the scene, but now that the men have been captured and identified, according to reliable reports from both Trinity and Crockett, the Rangers will not be needed.
