Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper January 8, 2009 Hobart "Buddy" Durham, Jr. Funeral services were held Saturday for Hobart "Buddy" Durham, Jr., 71, who died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008. Mr. Durham was born in Freestone county on Dec. 14, 1937, to Hobart and Fannie Mae Durham. He attended Butler high school and Los Angeles Community College where he studied pre-law. Mr. Durham was an experienced public speaker, a skill he parlayed into acting. His roles in film and television included Doc. Tara, I Spy, Roots, Mandingo, and Cowboys from Africa. He married Jean Joiner William on Dec. 7, 1962. Together, the couple had one child. On Dec. 9, 1967, Mr. Durham remarried. He and his second wife, Fayeleece Bard had one child. He was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church an had served at an early age with the United States Army. During his two years of service, Mr. Durham was stationed in Germany. While living in California, he attended St. Andrews Baptist Church and was a member of the choir and usher board. Mr. Durham spent his free time farming, gardening and watching television. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Lone Star Baptist Church in Oakwood with Rev. Larry Raven officiating. Interment followed at Lone Star Cemetery with Bryan Douglas Durham, Anthony Woods, Joseph H. Lewis, Nathan R. Durham, Keith I. Durham, Richard Durham, Jr., Lance D. Hicks, and Robert Durham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included Doris "Jim" Durham, George D. Durham, Richard E. Durham, Thurman R. Durham, Issac N. Durham and Bascom G. Durham. Mr. Durham is survived by his son, Charles Cedric Durham of Dallas; daughter, Fayeleecia Johnson and husband Greg of Murrieta, California; grandson, Christopher Johnson of Murrieta, California; sisters, Thelma Roquemore of Houston, Texanita Bluitte of Richmond, California, Allie Faye Moore and husband Alvin of Fairfield, California, Larue Hooks and husband Margin of Waco; brothers, Thurman Durham and wife Julia of Elm Mott, Doris "Jim" Durham and wife Roberta of Dallas, George Durham of Houston, Issac Durham and wife Sue of Oakwood, Richard Durham and wife Karen of Oakwood, Bascom Durham and wife Jenny of Poughkeepsie, New York and James R. Durham of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart, Sr. and Fannie Durham; and brother, T.A. Durham. Arrangements were made by Emanuel Funeral Homes.
