Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper April 05, 2008 edition Marian Lea (Abner) Eldridge Funeral services will be held today for Marian Lea Eldridge, 97, of Mexia who died Friday, March 28, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. Mrs. Eldridge was born on Sept. 14, 1910 to parents H.D. and America Abner. She was raised and educated in the Woodland community and attended Paul Quinn College in Waco. Mrs. Eldridge was employed as a housekeeper at the McGee Nursing Home. She was a member of Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church and was a participant in the Mexia State School Foster Grandparent Program. Services begin at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Mexia with Rev. Veliesa Edward officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Eldridge is survived by daughters Sandra Eldridge of Mexia, Verna Jean Rose of Plano and Edwina Eldridge of Dallas; sons Edwin Eldridge of Mexia and Henry Joel Eldridge, both of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents H.D. and America Abner and husband Napoleon Eldridge. Mrs. Eldridge was born on September 14, 1910, to H.D. Abner and America Bluitt Abner. She was raised in the Woodland Community, finished the public schools there and attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. She was married to Napoleon Eldridge. Mrs. Eldridge was a member of the St. John AME Church in Mexia, has been employed by the McGee Nursing Home, worked as a housekeeper and retired from the Mexia State School Foster Grandparent Program. Funeral services for Mrs. Eldridge were held on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., in the First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton, in Mexia, Texas. Rev. Veliesa Edward, Pastor of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Mexia officiated and Rev. Kennen Jackson, Pastor of Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Palestine was the Eulogist. Interment was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mexia. The family luncheon was in the St. John Fellowship Hall and viewing was held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. and visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present. Mrs. Eldridge is survived by her daughters Sandra Eldridge of Mexia, Verna Jean Rose of Plano, and Edwina Eldridge of Dallas; her sons Edwin Eldridge of Mexia and Henry Joel Eldridge of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
