(Submitted by Mike Pruitt on 16 May 2006) Groesbeck Journal Obituary Notice dated, Thursday, June 26, 2003: [Death date: Jun 21, 2003] Martha Irene (Black) Ellis Graveside services for Mrs. Martha Irene (Black) Ellis were conducted on Monday, June 23 at 10 a.m. in Shiloh Cemetery with Rev. Doyle Purifoy officiating. Mrs. Ellis was born May 2, 1907 in Tehuacana to Grandison D. and Arrenie Hall Black. She had 8 brothers: Lee, Dee, Dan, Allen, John, George, Elizah and Roger and 5 sisters: Lizzie, Susie, Mae and Cleo who all preceded her in death. She married A. H. (Chink) Ellis on September 27, 1928. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1974. She and her husband lived at Sweeny, Texas. They also lived in Hackberry, Louisiana as needed for his job. Irene moved to Teague in 1984; Baytown in January 2001. Irene's special pet is Pete. She and her husband loved fishing and hunting. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday School Class for many years. Irene accepted Christ as her Savior during the 1950's. She moved to Baytown to be near her loving niece, Patsy and her husband, Leonard Lock, who took care of her. She has numerous nieces and nephews throughout the area. Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home of Mexia was in charge of arrangements.
