Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder October 15, 2009 Bobby Joe Erwin Graveside services for Bobby Joe Erwin, 81, were held Friday, October 9, at Gause Cemetery in Gause, Texas. Bro. Lee Caldwell of Easterly Baptist Church officiated. Visitation was held Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Erwin passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the Haven Nursing Home in Mexia after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on September 8, 1928 in Gause to Wad and Lucille Erwin. Mr. Erwin entered the U.S. Army Air Corp. in February 1946 and served his country proudly in World War II as a tail gunner in B-52 Bombers. He was honorably discharged due to medical conditions in March 1947. He married Margaret Josephine Hicks in 1947 and they raised three children together. Mr. Erwin worked for the State of Texas Highway Department in Hearne, Fairfield, and Bryan for thirty years. He is survived by two sons, Joe Keith Erwin and wife Lana and Audie Bob Erwin and wife Lena, all of Teague; one daughter, Pat Ward of Beaumont; six grandchildren, John Michael Erwin and wife Lela, and James Matthew Erwin all of Teague, Christopher Joe Hagen and wife Jennifer of Dew, Andrew Kenneth Swope of Farrar, Erick Wade Swope of Georgetown, Christal Jay Erwin Smith and husband Troy of Teague, and Amy Josephine Erwin Hall of Dew; ten great- grandchildren, Hunter Hall, Wade Swope, Chandler Swope, Lena Madison Smith, Avrie Hall, Kaylee Smith, Audrie Smith, Kendall Smith, Skylar Bradley-Erwin, and Ethan Hagen; other relatives and friends. Mr. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Josephine Erwin; parents, Wad & Lucille Lange Erwin; and two sisters, Sally Moorehead and Laura Cook.
