Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Eliza (Burks) Terry Fairfield Recorder, Fairfield Texas Friday, April 17, 1925 IN MEMORY OF MRS. ELIZA TERRY Mrs. Eliza TERRY died at the home of her son, C. C. TERRY, near Mt. Zion on Tuesday Nov. 12, 1924. Grandmother was born Sept. 4, 1847 in Stewart County, Georgia and was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William BURKS. On Novc. 28, 1867 she was married to John TERRY. After marriage they came to Texas to live and settled near Fairfield. They lived in and near Fairfield the rest of their lives. Grandfather having died several years ago. To this union were born eight children, two of them having preceeded her to that celestial shore. Those that survive her are: C.C, Joel, David & Paul TERRY, Mrs. S. V. IVY of Fairfield, and Mrs. Howard F. GUNTER of Houston. She was a strong believer in the christian religion, having been a member of the Baptist Church for many years. Only to her many kind deeds and sympathetic nature, being ever ready to lend a helping hand and bestow a kind and consuling word to all in hours of trouble will make us miss her more in this world. Although Grandmother was 77 years old, she did not show her age so much. She was always jolly and even when death was at the door, she would laugh and talk with those that were at her bedside. As she reposed in the quite of death all lines that time had traced upon her countenance seems smoothed away. All the useful contours of her life came back upon her face to smile on children, grandchildren, and friends as is in prophecy of the glorified face which shall greet them when they meet on the shores of the eternal. She passed away after much suffering with softly folded hands and smilling lips, glad to be relieved from earths pains and calling ever by her devoted christian life to those she leaves to follow her and with willing hearts and glad obedince, like her to obey the summons when it comes to enter into rest. Her remains were laid to rest in the Driver Cemnetery the following day in the presents of a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. Rev. E. Homer TIREY officiating.
