Evans Held Sept. 11 [1966] Funeral services for William Sidney (Billie) Evans, 82, of Palestine formerly of Freestone County, were held Sunday, Sept 11 at 2 p.m. in the Post Oak Baptist Church, south of Fairfield, with Rev. Woodrow Ivy officiating. Burial was in Post Oak Cemetery. Mr. Evans was born in the Butler community in Freestone County on January 23, 1884, and was the son of the late Tom Turner Evans and Mrs. Mary Ivy Evans. He died in Palestine Friday, Sept 9 at 2:30 following a long illness. A farmer and rancher, he was a member of the Butler Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, J.W. Evans of Palestine, and Tom Evans of Oakwood; three daughters, Mrs. H.E. Dysart of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Joanne Woodyard of Bryan, and Miss Sadie Evans of Austin; two-half brothers, Sam Shelton of Donie and Graves Shelton of Teague; a half-sister, Mrs. Mattie Loder of Dallas; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Lawrence Crist, Howell Gee, L.V. Giles, Floyd Gurganis, L.C. Long and Hillary Franklin. Arrangements were by Hassell and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
