Freestone County, Texas Obits Mexia Daily News newspaper - August 30, 2006 edition Phil Ferguson Funeral services for Phil Ray Ferguson, 63, of Mexia, will be held Thursday morning (August 31, 2006) at 10 o’clock in Porter Funeral Home Chapel in Mexia. Burial will be in LaSalle Cemetery. Family visitation is scheduled for this evening from 6 until 8 o’clock in the funeral home. Mr. Ferguson, a retired employee of Mexia State School, was born October 10, 1942, in Freestone County, and died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at his residence, following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by a son, John Ferguson; his parents, Everett and Lola Ferguson, and by two brothers, Edward (Hick) Ferguson and Jimmy Ferguson. Phil attended school at Fairoaks and joined the Army when he was 17 years old. He served for 12 years in the Armed Services. Mr. Ferguson worked for the Mexia Fire Department and was also employed with the State of Texas. Surviving are his wife, Joan Ferguson of Mexia; a daughter, Laura Lee Ferguson of Shreveport, Louisiana; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Ray and Dustin Ferguson of Converse, Louisiana; a stepson, Gerald Reagan of Groesbeck; three grandchildren, Dawson Ferguson and Draydin Ferguson of Converse, Louisiana, and Jehnna Alexander of Stonewall, Louisiana; two step-grandchildren, David Joseph Reagan and Rebecca Lea Reagan of Groesbeck; three sisters, Chelsia Taylor and Lola M. Ferguson, both of Mexia, and Pat Buyher of Kilgore; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Aggie Ferguson of Mexia, and Cleve and Virginia Ferguson of Groesbeck; a sister-in-law, Beverly Ferguson of Personville; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
