Freestone County, Texas Obituaries, Memorials, and Death Notices The Fairfield Recorder - Friday, May 6, 1898 - Page: 5 OBITUARY Died March 20, 1898, Uncle Mat Foreman, in his 89th year. “Uncle Mat” as he was familiarly called, was one of the early pioneers of Freestone county, having been a resident of the county for 49 years. He was a true Christian, a member of the Christian church, and had been since his early manhood. His remains were followed to the grave by a large number of sympathizing relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in Antioch cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn. We would say to the bereaved wife and children, sorrow not as those that are without hope, for your loss is his eternal gain. He has kept the faith and fought the good fight, henceforth there is a crown of righteousness laid up for him. A Friend. Luna, Texas.
