Freestone County, Texas Obituaries N.B. Franklin October 16, 1930 - September 5, 2010 N.B. Franklin, 79, of Oakwood, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Palestine. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Rev. Max Martin of Long Lake Baptist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Mayes Cemetery near the Lone Star community. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 also at the funeral home. Mr. Franklin was born October 16, 1930 in the community of Butler in Freestone County, to parents John and Fannie Edwards Franklin. He was a lifetime area resident. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For twelve years he served as the water department superintendant in the city of Buffalo. He also performed small engine repair. He was a lifetime member of the Wilbur H. Bailey V.F.W. Post #5872 in Fairfield. He was known for his love of gardening, all animals and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lois Lummus Franklin in 1976; two brothers, Pelham Franklin and John Franklin; three sisters, Ollie Merry; Eula Belle Perrett and Frances Boyle. Pallbearers will be Joe Mullenax, John Mims, Bill Mullenax, Tommy Thomas, Tommy Vandygriff and Blake Vandygriff. Left to cherish his memory are three children, Lorri Vandygriff and husband Tommy of Oakwood; Nelson Franklin and wife Vicki of Teague; Teresa Jones and husband Joe Lynn also of Teague; one sister, Pauline Ebeling and husband Martin of Houston; five grandchildren, Blake Vandygriff; Melissa Thomas and husband Tommy; Allison Franklin; Nathan Franklin; James Jones; one great- granddaughter, Abigail Thomas.
