Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Bowers Funeral Home Thomas Charles (Jake) Freeman, Sr. (March 19, 1925 - February 4, 2008) U.S. Veteran Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Charles Freeman, Sr. were held on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 2:00p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home. Bro Steve Cowart & Bro. Dale Mitchell officiated. Interment followed the services at Shanks Cemetery near Kirvin. Mr. Freeman passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Waco. He was born in the Caney Community in Freestone County on March 19, 1925 to Joseph Earl & Nina Ruth Goolsby Freeman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Medic in the 1804 Service Command Unit. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty and was also a Prisoner of War in Germany. Mr. Freeman was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Thomas Charles Freeman, Jr. & wife Tonya of Eagle River, Alaska; one grandson, Patrick Freeman & wife Caressa of Anchorage, Alaska; one granddaughter, Kathleen Freeman of Eagle River, Alaska; step-daughter, Doniece Ferguson & husband Paul of Corsicana; step-son, Bo Hearn & wife Debbie of Chatanooga, Oklahoma; four step-grandchildren, Cori Ogburn of Corsicana, David Ferguson of Navarro, Lenson Hearn of Cache, Oklahoma, and Devin Martin of Weatherford, Oklahoma; seven step-great-grandchildren, Colton Ogburn, Hailee Ferguson, Gracie Ferguson, Savannah Hearn, Zane Hearn, Jessica Davenport, and Jennifer Shakleford; one step-great-great-grandchild, Ashlynn- Fay Davenport; three sisters, Christine Scarborough Wynne & husband Ellis of Kirvin, Pat DeVillier & husband Frank of Simsboro, and Bonnie Fulcher & husband Bobbie of Shanks; one brother, J. B. “Buck” Freeman & wife Carol of Teague; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Bell Freeman; one brother, Herman Freeman; and one step-grandson, Chris Hearn.
