Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [Mr. Ruby French] Fairfield Recorder December 16, 2010 RUBY FRENCH Funeral services were held Saturday at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague for Ruby French, 103, of Teague who died Dec. 6 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Interment followed at Driver Cemetery in Freestone county. French was born Sept. 26, 1907 in Leon county to Pinkney and Mary Elizabeth French. He moved to Teague with his family at an early age where he remained until the last year of his life. French married Lee Ella Johnson June 2, 1929 and shared over 75 years together until her death in 2004. He was a farmer all of his life and was known for raising some of the best corn, blackberries, peas, and sweet potatoes. He sold most of the produce from his home without ever leaving the farm. He did own a tractor, but never used it, instead choosing to use a horse or mule team. In his last years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch and waving to all who drove by and visiting with those who stopped by to see him. French was a member of the Church of Christ in Teague. He was preceded in death by his wife and sonin law Robbie Robbins. French is survived by his daughter Laverne Robbins of Arlington; son Robert R. French and wife Barbara of Lorena; grandchildren Marsha Smith, Kenny Donaldson and wife Donna, Glenn Donaldson and wife Mary, all of Arlington, Master Sgt. Dennis French and wife Lisa of Sumter, SC, and Doug French and friend Gina of Robinson; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters Catherine Ely and Gladys Cutler, both of Emory; and step-brother Calvin Prowell and wife Lillian of Mexia. Officiating services was Gene Fambrough. Making arrangements was Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
