Corsicana Daily Sun - Jan 7, 2005 edition Dr. Allen Irvin Gallup Dr. Allen I. Gallup, 70, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in Corsicana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Andrews Cemetery in Friend, Neb. Dr. Gallup was born April 3, 1934, in Friend, Neb. In the mid-1930s his parents, Asa and Lily Gallup, farmed near Beaver Crossing. In 1941, they moved to central Nebraska where Al grew up. Allen graduated from high school in 1951. He attended Kearney State University for two years and then during the Korean War he volunteered for the draft in 1953. When he returned from the army, he attended Kearney State again. He was accepted in 1956 to Creighton College of Dentistry in Omaha, Neb. He graduated third in his class in 1960 and then elected to continue his education for another two years in the study of children's dentistry at the University of Nebraska. In 1961, Al married Sharon Johnson in Hastings, Neb. Three children -- two sons, Duane Allen and Asa Nathaniel, and a daughter, Lillian Lee -- were born to this union. In 1962, Al and Sharon moved to Tucson, Ariz., where Allen practiced pedodontics for three years and Sharon taught school. In 1965, they moved to Dallas where Allen studied orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry for two years. Al and Sharon moved to Corsicana where they were welcomed with open arms. Sharon and Al always appreciated this. Dr. Gallup practiced orthodontics for 35 years in Corsicana and Fairfield. He also had a part-time practice in Waxahachie for many years. In 1993, Allen was invited to teach orthodontics to dentists in the graduate Pedodontic Department at Baylor College of Dentistry. His double specialty was a requirement. He always wanted to teach, so he accepted and taught for eight years. He also continued to practice orthodontics in Corsicana and Fairfield until two years ago when he retired due to poor health. Dr. Gallup was a man of high integrity and always treated each patient as if that patient was his own child. He wanted what was the very best for each patient. He was highly skilled as an orthodontist. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in October 2002. There is no known cure for renal cell carcinoma, so he had a courageous battle against it once it was known to have spread. He spent 19 months intermittently traveling to Houston to M.D. Anderson cancer hospital for experimental treatment. He even had successful brain surgery in March 2004. Allen was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He's left us now. We're left behind. We'll miss him so. We enjoyed his show. We watched him grow into full bloom. He had the strength to carry integrity full length.
