Freestone County, Texas Obituaries L.B. Gamble, Jr. L.B. Gamble, Jr, 69, passed away on January 26, 2014. Services were held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with Mr. Joe Lucas officiating and Mr. John Stubbs presiding over the Masonic Service. Interment followed at Mexia Cemetery, with the DPS presenting the Texas flag to the family. L.B. was born July 18, 1944, in Mexia, Texas to L.B. & Dorothy Jean Gamble, Sr. He grew up in Shiloh, where he attended school through junior high, then went to high school in Mexia. After graduating high school, L.B. went to Sam Houston State, where he received a degree in Bachelor of Science. Upon graduating, he went to work for the Department of Public Safety in the driver’s license division, stationed in Harlingen for a year, then stationed as a highway patrolman in Hallettsville, Texas, for two years. He then went to work for Mr. Athel Ivy at Ivy Feed and Livestock in Fairfield for about a year. After DPS called to see if he would come back to work on Governor Security Detail, he went to Uvalde, Texas in 1971 for Governor Dolph Briscoe. Upon completion of this, he went back to highway patrol until he retired from DPS in 1984. He then became Chief Deputy Sheriff of Uvalde County for several years until he was offered a job at a private prison system in Zavala County. L.B. moved back to Fairfield and was elected constable in 2002, and served for 12 years. He opened Gamble Cemetery Service in 2003, which he operated until his passing. L.B. was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. Gamble, Sr. and Dorothy Jean Gamble; niece, Kristi Gamble McCoy, and Dorothy Porter. Survivors include his wife, Chrisi Porter Gamble, children; Brent Gamble and wife, Misty, Brandi Gamble Sutherland and husband, Dub, Amy Key and husband, Jason, Clint Cox and wife, Sarah; grandchildren, Taylor and Emma Gamble, Sophie, Sloane and Liam Sutherland and Kortney and Kasey Key; brother, Mike Gamble; aunt & uncle, Florence and Sonny Jones; aunt, Alma Padgett; father-in-law, Jimmie B. Porter; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Buddy and Sharon Copeland; nieces, Hollie Gamble Kramer and Family, Jenny and Cliff Phillips and Family, Julie and Steven Tindell and Family, Jaime and Kenny Stimmel and Family as well as numerous Cousins, Extended Family and Friends. Serving as pallbearers were Juaquin Sandoval, Mickey Hendon, Donnie Anderson, Robert Barham, Jerry Ballard, Ricky Lloyd, Dan Beene and Jim Boyd. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
