Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle Feb. 18, 2010 issue PATSY GARRETT Funeral services for Mrs. Patsy Garrett, 71, were held on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Interment followed the services at Mexia Cemetery. Patsy was born at home to William and Barbara Armstrong on September 9, 1938, in Chandler Bottom near Lanely. Pat graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1957. While attending high school she worked for James Neale at City Drug Store in Teague and met Gerald Garrett there. They were married on June 1, 1957, and were blessed with three children. Pat and Gerald lived in Houston for many years before returning to Teague in 1978. She worked for the Teague General Hospital and later Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia until retiring in 2001. She later returned to work for the Teague Hospital District. While in Houston, Pat was a member of West University Church of Christ and Sharpstown Church of Christ. After returning to Teague, she became an active member of the Teague Church of Christ. Through the years she was involved with bus ministry, a Sunday school teacher, and worked on the church bulletin. Mrs. Garrett enjoyed spending time with her family, both immediate and extended, for holidays, family reunions, or no occasion at all, but to just be together. She made many lifelong friends, staying in touch with classmates and friends until her illness made it impossible. Pat enjoyed being busy doing things at home or just riding around in a car and loved to go dancing with her sisters. She danced for hours with her nephew at the last wedding reception she was able to attend, already suffering from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. She also loved spending time with her precious grandson, J.D. Mrs. Garrett passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in Groesbeck, Texas. Patsy was preceded in death by her father William Armstrong; her brother, James Armstrong; and the father of her children, Gerald Garrett. Pat is survived by her mother Barbara Armstrong of Teague; her children Russell Garrett and wife Wanda of Dawson, Richard Garrett of Teague and Rhonda Bruhin and husband Lonnie of Irving; her special grandson J.D. Garrett, the light of her life; her sisters Joy Kennedy and very special brother-in-law, Bobby, and Connie Wilson of Waco; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Sowers of Clifton; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her and she greatly loved in return.
