George Delmer Fred George, son of Wilmer Clyde, Sr. and Ura Neal George, Sr. died Friday at the Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Fairfield at the age of 80. Funeral services were held Monday at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel, Charles Kimble and Royce Hiel officiating. Interment followed the services at George Cemetery. Mr. George was born April 8, 1925 at the Clay Hill Community. He was a former resident of Alvin and returned to Clay Hill in 1973. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as an honorary deacon and worked for Texas oil as production foreman before retiring. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific, Philippines, Hawaii and Alaska. Mr. George was a second class carpenter's mate. He married Miss Corrie on April 8, 1992, raised cattle, loved taking care of his family and was known for making people laugh. Mr. George was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred Fay Springer; his parents Wilmer Clyde, Sr. and Ura Neal George and brothers Wilmer Clyde George, Jr. and Hilton "Ted" George. He is survived by his wife, Corrie of Clay Hill; son Fred Lavon George of Fairfield; daughters Wanda Fay Smart and husband Kenneth of Fairfield and Kathy Irteimeh of Clay Hill and step children Gertrude Clanton and husband R. B. of Leslie, Arkansas, James Coates and wife Terry of Alvin, Arkansas and Ronnie Coates and wife Shery also of Alvin. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister Ima Marie Tyus of Lake Limestone; brother Manish Dale George of Arlington and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Arrangements were by Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home.
