Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Bowers Funeral Home Johnny Goodwin (Died February 14, 2008) Johnny Goodwin Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Goodwin were held on Sunday, February 17, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Bro. Darrell Beggs officiated. Interment followed the service at Greenwood Cemetery. Johnny passed away on February 14, 2008 in an automobile accident near Freestone. He was born in Oceanside, California, but grew up in Cleveland, Texas. He moved to Teague when he was a freshman in high school. Johnny graduated from Teague High School in the class of 1978. He worked in Africa for a few years after several years of employment with Westmoreland Coal Company, but had recently returned to work at Westmoreland. Johnny was never at a loss for words and was known to always have a “comeback” for everything! He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold. Johnny loved music and enjoyed singing. He always put his family first. Johnny was a member of First Baptist Church in Teague. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Goodwin of Teague; sons; Corey R. Goodwin of Dallas and Evan J. Goodwin of Teague; daughter, Jessica Goodwin of San Marcos; mother, Leah Stephens of Teague; father, Sam Goodwin of Teague; two brothers, Danny D. Goodwin of Missouri and Steve Goodwin & wife Terri of Teague; two sisters, Patty Smith of Teague and Pamela Chavez & husband Mauricio of Humble; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
