Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 19, 2009 Bill Eugene Gray Funeral services were held last weekend for Bill Eugene Gray, 63, of Streetman who died Friday, March 6, after a two year battle against can- cer. Mr. Gray was born in Barton county Kansas on Feb. 27, 1946. When he was nine years old, Mr. Gray's family moved from Claflin, Kansas to Hoisington, Kansas. His family moved again, this time to Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Gray attended school in Wichita graduating from Campus high school in 1964. From 1968 to 1971, Mr. Gray served in the United States Army. After completing a tour of duty in Vietnam, he received a Purple Heart and Silver Star. He worked in the construction industry for several years in Kansas City before moving to Texas where he served as project manager on various large ventures. Mr. Gray built a home in Streetman for him and his family. They moved from Dallas in 1998. He retired from construction in 2007. Mr. Gray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working in his yard. Graveside services with full military honors were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Birdston Cemetery in Streetman. Mr. Gray is survived by his wife of 24 years, Evelyn Gray of Streetman; sons, Michael Gray of Dallas and John Gray of Corsicana; daughters, Amee Hooper of Corsicana and Nikki Williams of Kilgore; grandchildren, Sierra, Shane, Cole, Triniti, Madison and Kira; brothers, Wayne Gray of Holualoa, Hawaii and Donn Gray of Wichita, Kansas He is preceded in death by his father, Basil A. Gray; mother, Leona G. Gray; and brother, James Gray. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements made by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield.
